Farthings is a very smart country house hotel situated in a pretty part of Somerset just a few miles from Taunton. Hatch Beauchamp was bypassed some twenty-five years ago and is now a quiet and most desirable village near to the very busy and expanding county town of Taunton (population around 55,000), the M5 motorway and, in the other direction, the A303. For the leisure visitor the region is ringed by areas of interest, including the Quantocks, Blackdown Hills, Exmoor and the Dorset coast. Taunton is the administrative centre for North Somerset so there is plenty going on, not least the County Cricket Club. After a long career in the corporate world, the present owner bought Farthings in 2006. He put into action a five year plan to improve standards and establish the hotel’s reputation for the quality of its rooms and food, and as a venue for meetings and weddings. This he has done to good effect, achieving his targets by the end of year two, a reflection of the quality of the location and property. Farthings is now in many of the good hotel and food guides.
